3 proven points people look for when choosing next perfect wall colour

Over the years, there has been a trend of our client’s thoughts on wall colours. Not only walls, but also on the ceiling and door, as well as door trim, crown moulding and windows. And for a good reason. Paint does matter. In this article we summarized 3 main points that our clients think about and base their decisions on, when it comes to wall painting.
Colours
Most of us know how powerful colours can be, in shaping and perceiving our moment-to-moment living. For example, colour red affects our moods and state of being, making us more alert. We also know a lot about green colour effects-soothing and calming. Logic and common sense tell a story about the blues and oranges. And so on. Scientific research confirmed what we knew since the beginning of time: colours that surround us, affect us.
So, what were those trends and the 1st point of client’s thoughts? In simple words, looking for the right colour was important. And still is. To this day, we have been hearing our clients say things like: ‘I need something light to counter this small window. Otherwise, it’s so dark in here that I don’t like walking in.’ Understandable.
There is no need in cutting up and digesting all that can be told about the wall colours, here. There are plenty of shows, articles and word of mouth explanations, experiences and conclusions. Here is one of the great sources, a Psychologist explanation of the importance of colours for your home: https://theconversation.com/what-colour-should-i-repaint-my-home-ask-a-psychologist-271787
This knowledge ties well to what another client said: ‘My backyard is very bright, with white sun umbrella and all. I need my dining room to soften these bright outdoor shines. Sometimes I think that the Sun itself is on our deck, that’s how bright it can get’. Of course. Who wants to feel like being under interrogation lighting?
Another client emphasized: ‘This is an old house, from the 1890s. My wife and I need this hallway to brighten up. And we need to cover the old wall imperfections – there are plenty, as you can tell.’ Indeed, there were plenty.
Once you get used to new colours around you, chances are that you won’t even notice them, Unless you are of a mindful kind who observe it all, intently. For others, though, as long as your eyes land on that kitchen wall while you batter your cake mix, and you are happy and don’t even notice the colour, you will be ok. As long as you relax in your sofa, without the second thought about your walls, the goal is achieved.

Wall quality
Which brings us to the 2nd important home painting point: the walls. Many dread them. For a reason. Some can be easily damaged and turned into a pile of dust and reveal materials which have not existed on the market, for decades. In old houses it’s mix of frightening and gold-digging thrill – one never knows what will drop out of that hat. I mean, wall.
But, let’s relieve your fears, the walls can be made reasonably smooth and get a passing mark. For awhile, though. For those of you living in newer homes, this problem does not exist. Erase it. One problem less in your life.
In order to get a better wall look, a general rule of thumb is: use flat finish paints on older, wrinkly and irregular looking walls. Use a bit higher shine finish paints on smooth and newer walls. The higher shines are there for a good wall washing too.
Paint Quality
The 3rd point is: Paint quality. Not the price so much as the quality. We’ve had clients asking for the most expensive paint in a certain paint line. No mistake can be made like that, for sure. Most of you, however, are good with medium end paint lines. Sure, there are differences, but the good news is that these days one can find (and we found it) certain paint brand lower lines, that behave wonderfully, during the painting process and what for what matters to you the most: durability and aesthetics.
Which means that one can get by with the cheaper paint too, and still have a lovely looking home. This is usually what home owners choose when dealing with their rental properties – there is a good balance of cost for value.
In conclusion, we should remind the reader that your home is where your heart is and where your heart is the space should be pleasant and comfy to your soul. Simple as that. If we may suggest, be kind to yourself, put some thought into it and choose the colours that most appeal to you.
Wishing you a happy painting!
